A dining table takes more abuse than any other piece of furniture in the house. Hot dishes, spilled drinks, homework, decades of elbows. Most of what that does is fixable, and almost none of it requires a new table.

We have been refinishing and repairing tables at our bench on Maze Blvd since 1991.

• Water rings and heat marks. The white cloudy rings from a wet glass, and the pale patches from a hot dish, usually sit in the finish rather than the wood. That means they come out without stripping the whole top.
• Sun fade. Valley sun bleaches anything near a window, often unevenly, so one half of a top no longer matches the other. We refinish the full surface so the color reads as one piece again.
• Deep scratches and gouges. Filled, blended and refinished so the repair disappears into the grain instead of sitting on top of it.
• Loose and wobbly joints. A table that rocks is a joint problem, not a leg problem. We take it apart, clean the old glue out, and re-glue it properly so it holds.
• Cracked and split tops. Wood moves with the seasons. A split can be drawn back together and stabilized rather than replaced.
• Worn or peeling finish. Stripped back and refinished to your choice of sheen.
• Leaves that no longer match. Table leaves that lived in a closet age differently from the top that stayed out. We bring them back to the same color.

Custom table tops.

Sometimes a top is past saving, or the base is worth keeping and the top isn't. We build replacement tops in solid hardwood, sized to your existing base, and finish them to match the rest of the piece.

Bring us the base and tell us how you use the table. We will talk through wood, edge profile and finish before anything gets cut.

1. Send us photos. Text or email a few pictures of the table and close-ups of the damage. Most of the time that is enough for us to tell you what it needs.
2. Bring it in, or we can arrange pickup. We are at 301 Maze Blvd in Modesto.
3. We do the work by hand. No production line. The same people who look at your table are the ones who fix it.

Older tables need a lighter hand. Veneer, inlay and carved detail come apart if they are treated like a slab of oak, and the wrong approach is where pieces get ruined.
