The one piece you kept
Patterson has deep farm roots and a lot of new houses, and the furniture we hear about usually sits between the two: a table or a dresser from a farm family's house, kept when everything else went, now sitting in a new home and looking its age.
People ask whether it is worth fixing, whether it will lose what makes it special, and whether it costs more than buying new. Those are good questions, and the answers depend on the piece.

Working furniture from working households
Furniture from farm households tends to be furniture that was used every day: kitchen and dining tables, sturdy chairs, dressers, cabinets. It has usually been well built, heavily used and repaired at home more than once, sometimes with nails or screws where glue should have been.
That kind of piece is often a very good candidate for restoration. We undo the old repairs, fix the joints properly and bring the surface back, keeping as much of its history as you want.
The fastest answer is a photo. Send a wide shot of the piece and a close-up of the damage through the contact form or chat, and we will tell you what it needs.
Worth it versus replacing
If the piece is solid wood and the structure is sound, restoring it usually makes sense, and it will outlast most new furniture. If it is particleboard, or a piece with no particular meaning that has failed badly, replacing it may be the honest answer, and we will tell you so.
Restoration does not have to make something look new. Sometimes the right job is repair, cleaning and a gentle refresh of the finish.
From the west side to our bench
Patterson is across the valley from our Modesto shop, a longer drive than in-town work. Many customers bring a smaller piece in themselves, which is how the estimate is free. For a set or a large piece, we run our own truck and can talk through pickup when you call.
What it costs to come out to Patterson, straight
