A new house, and a piano that has to go upstairs
Patterson has grown a lot, and many of the piano calls we get from there are families moving into newer homes. The piano is going into a two-story house, and the place everyone wants it is not always the easiest place to get it.
The other kind of call comes from the older part of town, where a piano has lived in the same house for years and is finally moving. Both are very doable. They just ask different questions.
Our own truck, our own crew, our own shop in Modesto.
Newer subdivisions and the old town circle
Much of Patterson is newer tract housing: good driveways and easy approaches, but often two stories, with lofts and bonus rooms and staircases that turn at a landing or at the top. The turn is what decides how an upright travels and whether a grand can go up at all.
The older streets around the town circle at the center of Patterson are a different job: single-story homes, porch steps, short drives and narrower doorways. Less climbing, more careful work at the threshold.
Send us a photo of the piano and of the stairs or entry at the new house through the contact form or chat. It is the quickest way to a firm price for a west-side move.
The drive across the valley
Patterson is west of us, across the valley floor toward I-5. It is a longer haul than in-town work, which is why we settle the instrument, the access at both ends and the arrival window on the phone, so the move is one trip. Newman usually goes on the same route.
Grands, uprights and the right equipment
A grand is moved on its side on a padded skid board, with the legs, lyre and pedals removed and then reassembled in place. An upright stays whole but needs a proper piano dolly, straps and padding, and a crew that knows where the pivots go on a stair.
If the dates do not line up, we can wrap the piano and store it on raised supports at our Modesto shop until the new house is ready.
Settling in
Let the piano sit in its new room for a few weeks before tuning, and keep it out of direct sun and away from heating vents. Newer homes often have big windows, so placement is worth a moment's thought.
What it costs to come out to Patterson, straight
We price a Patterson move as a whole job: the piano, the drive across the valley, and the stairs and access at each end. No flat rate, because a loft in a new build and a porch on an old street are different jobs.
A piano does not come to the shop for a look, so for a move we price from the details: the piano type, both addresses, the stairs and the access. A photo of the piano and one of the path out of the house usually covers it, and the price is firm before anything is scheduled.
If Bob needs to drive out and see the access in person first, there is a charge for the visit, quoted when you call.
